Millions of unemployed adults rely on the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) to purchase basic goods and access basic services every month. Sassa has now confirmed the payment dates for April 2024.The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has confirmed the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant payment dates for April 2024. Millions of people are set to benefit from SRD grant payments in April. In March 2024, Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana revealed that the SRD grant payment would be increased from R350 to R370. April is the first month in which beneficiaries will receive an SRD R370 Sassa grant payment.Sassa said approved SRD grant applicants will receive SRD grant payments from Thursday, 25 April 2024. Payments will be made until 30 April 2024. The grant payment agency reminded grant beneficiaries that the money will take between two and three days before it is reflected in their bank account. Sassa encouraged grant beneficiaries to check their SRD grant status to ensure they have been approved for payments in AprilSocial Development Minister Lindiwe Zulu confirmed the addition of Section 6C to the Social Assistance Act. This ensures continued payments for existing beneficiaries until May 2024.
Section 6C acts as a bridge during the transition to a new system. To avoid disruptions, Sassa will apply assessment data from March 2024 to determine eligibility for April payments.
This allows for seamless continuation of financial support.
If beneficiaries were approved for March 2024, they will likely be paid a R370 grant in April 2024. Millions of individuals are set to receive social grant payments in May 2024. Sassa has now confirmed how much these grant payments will be.
